in praise of bus riding
By Driver Jacob
Bus riding can be a place to lift yourself and others up before the
day starts, and a place to deal with the good and bad happenings of
days gone by. Because you?re rolling along through time and space
as a group put together by destiny and fate, one of the highlights
of your life might happen, like meeting the man or woman of your
dreams or just a much needed friend. Or maybe you?ll be able to
make the world a better place by using only a few kind words to an
aging, lonely widow, or lending a hand to people who are ill or have
disabilities. You might even get a chance to be an ambassador
to the world at large, if a passenger who is new to our country or
city asks you for directions, and the conversation turns to sharing
information about your different backgrounds.
With all our technology today, buses are our simplest and most
personal way to connect to each other. The future holds a prize box
filled with global togetherness waiting to be opened. Our success
depends on our willingness to open that box. We all have a ticket to
ride and there is no better place to start than riding the bus with your
brothers and sisters. And we can all do it. Because this is America,
and this is public and community transportation.
